Many so-called Internet marketing “guru’s” are selling “autopilot” niche
packages that claim people new to Internet marketing can find profitable
niche markets and set up multiple web sites for multiple niches and make
quick money.

This week Part 9. “Recover Lost Sales”
A great alternative to simply adding free bonuses is to offer discount bonuses on past items. Sometimes it can pay off to make light of the fact that you‘re offering a
previously released product. This works best when combined with a new sale and
usually it‘s a good idea to choose products that work well together (don‘t mix a
cookbook with an internet marketing book etc.)
The tactic here is to offer a special discount on a previously released item when the
customer buys a new item or vice versa. You could present the old items as ?related?
items and give your customers a steep discount (upwards of 50%) on those items
when they buy the new one. You could also re-release an old item and give the
customer a modest discount on the new item when they buy the original (It wouldn‘t
hurt to release the older items at a lower price point either).
The goal here is to 1) Entice people who may have passed up the old product when it was available because of price and 2) make the new item seem more appealing by
combining it with similar products that will supplement it.
Example: You’re releasing your new video course on how to make money
off Craigslist. You could offer an older DVD set about Ebay or Amazon.com for half price for anyone who signs up for this DVD.
The main purpose of this tactic is to avoid breaking PLR agreements; it‘s only fair that everyone who bought the PLR be able to profit from it and if you offer it for free you‘re undermining those contracts. The other main reason is simply to make more profit.
It‘s simple math really, convincing someone to buy 1 new product and 2 old products at half price is quite a bit more profitable than just giving those 2 old products away (though you may want to consider how many more sales you‘ll get and whether or not it‘s really a better choice).
Again, I cannot stress enough that if you re-title the content and add new set of graphics, then the competition factor goes away 100%.

Most people would take that data (an affiliate product such as Rocket French that
pays out at a high level and a big demand such as we have for learning French)
and then begin building a site or whatever it is that they do to promote the
product.
And that’s not inherently wrong – plenty of people make money that way but it’s
definitely not the Simple Commissions way of doing it. It’s simply working too
hard.
The Difference Between A Niche And A Market (Again)
To understand what I am talking about, let’s go back to the difference between a
niche and a market again. The niche is learning French online. The market is
people who want to learn French online. Again, a small but important distinction.
If you focus on the group of people you’ll begin to think about their needs and
wants (wants being far more important than needs). This group of people want to
learn French online. Are they passionate? Maybe but I doubt most are. But
here’s the real point….
What else are the people who want to learn French ever going to buy from you?
The answer is nothing. Once they have learned French (or at least purchased the
software to do it) there is really nothing else related that they need. Of course
there is a slight possibility that you could sell a French cookbook or something like
that but you know intuitively that that would not work very well.
Now contrast this to a market like Golfers. Golfers are notoriously passionate
about their sport and have demonstrated that as a market they are willing to
spend billions of dollars on related products and services. They spend money on
clubs, clothing, trips, instructional materials etc etc.
If you are able to get a golfer as a customer (even as an affiliate) then you can sell
to them over and over and over again. They will likely be nuts about golf for life
and if you treat them right each client can be worth thousands of dollars to you
over a lifetime.
Which would you rather make? Thousands over the course of a lifetime with
golfers or a one time payment of $60 from people wanting to learn French online?
The answer is pretty obvious.
Looking at the people involved and what they really want will help you build a bigger, more stable long term business.

Unfortunately for most people, these autopilot niche packages are recipes
for failure.
What Is A Niche Market?
A niche market is a narrowly focused group of people that you focus your
specific product on. So instead of trying to sell your health product to
everyone, you might focus on just arthritis pain sufferers. Common
advantages of niche markets include:
– the ability to tailor your communication and marketing specifically to the
niche markets needs
– less competition than broader markets
– may be able to charge a premium price for quality products
So Why Are Niche Markets Bad?
They aren’t. Niche markets are fantastic. It is the way these Internet
marketing guru’s are telling you to use them that are the problem. The main
two problems are:
1. Autopilot
2. No connection to the niche
Autopilot
Don’t get me wrong, as a time management trainer, I am all for automating as
much of my work as possible. But the problem with the autopilot processes
promoted in these packages is that the same content is being promoted to all
their clients. There is no unique content, you are selling the same things
as everyone else. So how can you stand out when you are just part of the
crowd?
Automation is great when applied to tasks, but not to content development.
2 – No Connection to Niche
If you set up multiple web sites in multiple niches, what is your connection
to any of the niches? Most automated niche marketing systems are generic.
Your name isn’t on the web site and it doesn’t look like there is a real
person behind it.
So there is no unique, authentic voice for people to follow. You can’t use
one of the most powerful marketing tools, social media, because there is no
person involved. You are not building lifelong profitable win-win
relationships with your customers.
And, if you have no connection or passion for a niche, what will keep you
motivated to work on it? It takes time to make money, so a whole bunch of
niche web sites you have no passion for are very difficult to market.
So How Do I Use Niche Marketing Properly?
Find a niche you are passionate about that has strong needs you can help
with. Take the time to learn about the needs of your niche community.
Build a following over time and become a resource leader for your niche.
This will allow you to have a lifelong profitable relationship with your
customers instead of a “make money fast” grab and run.
