this week Part 11. Create a Membership Empire
One of the most profitable ways to take advantage of this step is to charge members a monthly fee to access a membership site where they can download all of your content.
Everyone knows how profitable and popular these things are. The appeal comes in
that they offer passive, monthly profit. Unfortunately the main issue with regular membership sites is that you need to continuously be creating new content and updating your site. You also have to keep it up, pretty much, forever.
The Answer: Give your membership site a fixed time period!
Instead of going on indefinitely, members sign up and pay a monthly fee for a predetermined amount of time, such as three months, six months or one year. You set the duration based on how much content you have. If the website becomes wildly profitable you can always extend the duration and offer promotions.
By doing this you can avoid having to create an entire website with a members area.
You can just load the links to new content in your auto-responder and send the
content on a fixed schedule (Daily/Weekly/Monthly) to every new customer.
The normal method of making membership sites requires you to constantly update
and maintain a member‘s area. Plus every member is getting the same content every
week so you have to stick to your predetermined schedule.
By using the auto-responder you avoid both of these problems AND you don‘t necessarily have to tear the buy-in website down after a set amount of time. Instead of placing a time limit you can just set a content limit. People will sign up to get a certain amount of free content every week or month until the content is gone.
For example: On your sign up page you would write, “Sign up today for our 52-article program and get 4 articles every month.”
That way your customers know they‘re getting a total of 52 articles and you can leave your site up for as long as you want. New members will just start from the beginning of the 52-article cycle. This is great when you have low-bandwidth content like articles and e-books along with inexpensive hosting. You can just leave the sight up for years and make money off of it. (Make sure to do some occasional marketing so your site does not become stagnant.)
Another way to keep a membership website going for ever is to use a WordPress blog to manage the members area, and then use a script like WishList Member. This great script can drip feed content to your members, so no matter when they sign up they will always be starting with month one‘s content, and if you have created two years‘ worth of content they will be able to stay a member for two years.
This works much better than just delivering all of your past content to new members right when they join and then they only get new content that you add it in the future as their membership progresses. They already have everything which means they are likely not to stay long, however with a script like the one mentioned above they are starting as if the membership site is brand-new.

This time we Learn.. “How To Find A Winning Market”
Now that you understand how the difference between a niche and a market and what the difference can mean to you in terms of commissions long term, let’s look at how you go about finding a market.
The first thing to remember is that a market is a group of people with a common
goal, passion for a hobby or a common problem. Here are some ideas on how to
find markets.
Magazines
There’s no need to reinvent the wheel. If there are one or more magazines on a
subject then the people they cater to are likely a good market. After all,
magazines need readership and advertising to survive. If companies are paying to advertise in the magazine then there is a good chance that it is a winning market.
There are a couple of ways you can do this. First you can head down to your
favorite bookstore and there is likely a huge rack of magazines that you can simply browse through to get ideas. While this is my favorite method, it is definitely not efficient.
Instead, head over to Magazines.com. This is what you’ll see:
Click on ‘View All Categories’ and you’ll come to a page like this:
My screenshot was cut of half way through but as you can see there are a ton of
magazines out there on many different subjects.
Let’s click on ‘Skin Art’ under ‘Art & Photography’.
As you can see there are 5 magazines related to tattooing. Is this a good market? It probably is. There are products online to sell such as tattoo designs.
You could also probably sell other things to this market. People who are
interested in tattooing probably have other common interests as well.
This however is not a great market for me. I just don’t get the feeling that there is
a ton of money to be made from this market online (I think they spend most of
their money offline).
So, I am going back to the categories page and choose ‘Hunting And Fishing’. Just a guess. Here are some of the results:
Kaboom !!!!
Apparently there are 50 + magazines for people into fishing and hunting.
This is a big market. And you probably know intuitively that the people in this market are very passionate about their hobby (or sport perhaps).
It’s also not a one shot deal – these people will buy for life if you get them as a customer and treat them well.
Out of the magazines in this category, Bass Fishing is the topic that interests me the most. Remember, the market is not “Bass Fishing”, the market is “Bass Fishermen”.
Let’s go back to the Google Adwords tool to see if there is any demand:
As you can see, there are a ton of searches involving bass fishing and there are
people paying to advertise to the market.
I liked 3 keywords in particular…
‘bass fishing trips’ – 1,600 searches per month and an adwords cost of $2.62 per
click.
‘bass fishing videos’ – 3,600 searches per month and an adwords cost of $0.93 per click
‘bass fshing guides’ – 9,900 searches per month and an adwords cost of $1.55 per click.
So far this market – bass fishermen – is showing a lot of promise.
They are passionate about what they do, there is lots of interest in products and services that we can sell on our own or as an affiliate and there are people
advertising to this market so it must be profitable.
